Claude Frontier Academy: Anthropic puts $100 million into training 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers
In brief
On October 2, 2026 Anthropic launched Claude Frontier Academy: a bootcamp plus a 12-week residency inside the engineer's own company, entry by employer nomination, with a goal of 10,000 graduates by the end of 2027. What the program covers and what it means if you want the role, run AI at a company, or hire an FDE.

On October 2, 2026, Anthropic announced Claude Frontier Academy: a $100 million commitment to train 10,000 Frontier Deployed Engineers (FDEs) by the end of 2027. The program trains engineers to the standard Anthropic uses for its own, and employers nominate who attends.
If you have read about the forward deployed engineer role, this is the first vendor-run credential built for it.
What the role is
Anthropic defines an FDE as an engineer who can take Claude from a first business use case through implementation, security review, production deployment, and adoption across the organization. That is the whole path, not only the build.
How the program works
Anthropic describes it as a residency, modeled on medical training, in two phases:
- A multi-day in-person bootcamp with Anthropic engineers: simulated enterprise deployments, security reviews, and practical assessments.
- A 12-week residency, where the engineer leads real Claude projects at their own organization with ongoing support from Anthropic.
A badge is awarded at the end of each phase. First cohorts are running in San Francisco, New York, and London, and the first graduates are expected in early 2027.
Who gets in
You cannot apply directly. Organizations nominate engineers, and participation runs through Anthropic account teams. Anthropic asks for hands-on software engineers with strong fundamentals, prior LLM development experience, and a background helping organizations adopt AI. The first cohorts include engineers from Accenture, Bain, Capgemini, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Deloitte, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley, and Novo Nordisk. Anthropic's page does not state a price for participating organizations.
What it means for each reader
If you want to become an FDE. The nomination route means your employer, or a consultancy that has a relationship with Anthropic, is the door. Meanwhile the work the bootcamp assesses is learnable now: the portfolio projects that prove FDE skills and how to scope an engagement are a practical start. How to become a forward deployed engineer covers the wider path.
If you run AI at a company. Anthropic is investing in the person who gets Claude into production inside large organizations, which says where it sees the bottleneck: deployment skill, not model access. If you have a strong engineer, a nomination through your Anthropic account team is the question to ask.
If you buy services. Expect partners to start advertising Frontier Academy badges. Ask what the badge covered and which production deployments the person led during the 12 weeks.
